Deborah Sepulveda Deborah Sepulveda, a travel agent by trade has been dancing with The Mambo Mamas since its inception. She was the first member to join the troupe. What started as a hobby has carried over to a career with the group. As a young child Sepulveda always had a dream to live in New York City. A day after her twelfth birthday the young girl, with her mother, left her beautiful Puerto Rico behind and moved to the place she would henceforth call home, The Big Apple. At the age of the seventeen, Sepulveda's older sister took her to the legendary Copacabana. The young woman liked the music, but fell in love with the dance. She would go to the club every Tuesday, even though she was not yet much of a dancer. As a shy young teenager she simply took pleasure in watching others dance. However, a year later admiration from afar was simply not enough. So her sister took her to the dance class of world-renowned instructors Maria and Eddie Torres. Under their guidance Sepulveda took classes religiously three to four times a week for three years. Rain or shine the young woman was in class.
One day Abbey Plotkin, founder of The Mambo Mamas, approached Sepulveda and asked her a question; "Would you like to join a dance group of all big women?" although, she thought it was a joke Deborah said "yes!". Ever since that day Sepulveda has had the last laugh enjoying her life as a professional dancer. Here are other member bio's. |
