The Mambo Mamas; What is it?
The Mambo Mamas is a dance troupe founded by a short, plump, Jewish woman named Abbey Plotkin who has a vision of her own. Her idea was that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and that dancing is for everybody.
The Mambo Mamas Accomplishments...
The Mambo Mamas have performed in the best Latin Nightclubs in New York City. The group has had engagements at various outdoor festivals including the Latin festival of New Jersey and the Summer Fest at the South Street Seaport in Manhattan. On New Years eve of 1996, the team participated in a huge city-wide event called First Night, in which they appeared in the landmark "Grand Central Station." The women have taken the stage on national American television performing on the Maury Povich Talk Show. They also were flown to Miami, Florida to appear as guests on the popular international show, "Sabado Gigante."
The Mambo Mamas were flown to Italy to be the headline act at the "International Meeting of Big People" In Cavour, just outside of Turin (Turino). The event was covered by Italian television and news media. The troupe also has had the privilege of performing at conventions in Montreal, Toronto, Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Chicago and Denver sharing stages with some of the greatest Latin dancers in the world.
The Mambo Mamas are a true success story and have traveled around the world. They have proven to all that dancing is for
people of all shapes and sizes.
